Alouettes’ tailback Avon Cobourne was upset, but not surprised, over the release of his brother, Patrick, who was attempting to crack the roster as a returner and receiver. The younger Cobourne was one of 10 players released on Monday.

“You could tell how the reps were going in practice,” Avon Cobourne said on Tuesday. “Where was he going to play? All our receivers are back.

“He really didn’t get an opportunity to be a returner. I wish he would have got more of a chance, but that’s how the cookie crumbles. I’m not the coach.”

Cobourne admitted his brother took the news better than did he. Patrick Cobourne will return to New Jersey, where he plays semi-pro, while going back to his day job – selling cellphones.

“I would have loved to play with him,” the running-back said. “He’ll make more money at home.”

Meanwhile, guard Scott Flory, who missed Saturday’s exhibition game against Toronto because of the birth of his third child – and first girl – said mother and daughter are doing well.

Ava Constance, eight pounds, was born Saturday at 11:44 a.m. at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
